North-Western College’s ties with Japan date back to the 1870s. The College developed these ties by supporting and hosting visits from the Tokyo Bible School (run by Susan Bauernfeind, class of 1899). This photo from a November 1918 visit shows members of the YWCA in traditional Japanese dress with a visiting instructor and former pupil of the Tokyo Bible School, Miss Jumonji (third from left).

Booster clubs, organized by students, faculty and alumni according to their home states, were at their height during the first half of Edward Everett Rall’s presidency. Clubs built floats and participated in a May parade. This photo depicts a booster display for Kansas, 1914.
