Professor J. L. Nichols (seated with book) and some of his business students in 1891: one of his most successful students was Peter E. Kroehler (standing, left). A year after Kroehler completed the commercial course at the College in 1892, Nichols invited him to join the Naperville Lounge Company. In 1903, Kroehler borrowed money from his father and took control of the Naperville Lounge Company, which he renamed the Kroehler Manufacturing Company.

The Business Guide, or Safe Methods of Business by J. L. Nichols, principal of North-Western College’s Department of Commerce. First published in 1886, the book had sold more than one million copies by the time of this printing in 1895.
